I
n partnership with Liverpool Community College, we are undertaking a
challenging task to help 80 college students experience the
world-of-work alongside their study…and we need your help!
As
youth unemployment rises to record highs and the economy experiences a
double dip recession, employers are experiencing greater numbers of
applicants to their vacancies.
The number of 16-24 year olds looking for work in March topped one million, more than 22% of the workforce.
Quite easily, the less skilled and less experienced applicants get left
behind, and for young people looking to start a working life they are at
a distinct disadvantage in the marketplace because of their lack of
employment experience.
Research suggests young people who are
unemployed for a long time will earn less throughout their whole lives.
They will be less employable and are more likely to have long-term
health problems.
Equipping young people with work skills and experiences will
provide them with greater leverage in their pursuit of employment and help
them get into the workplace quicker. We are delighted to be working with Liverpool Community College on this valuable project.
